Should You Tip On Takeout Orders?

start exploring

When you eat at a restaurant, there are usually pretty standard rules about how much and how you should tip.

But there aren't as clear rules about how to tip when picking up takeout, whether you order ahead or at the restaurant.

So To Tip?

In fact, the cashier is also a shopper. Therefore, picking up to-go orders without tipping also harms them. If possible, everyone should tip.

Everyone in a counter service restaurant, from the cooks to the hosts, puts in time and effort and deserves recognition.

How much to tip?

Although a 20% tip is typically expected for a sit-down meal, the tipping expectation for takeout has not always been as clear.

What workers say?

A worker for a restaurant chain stated, "We leave the decision to tip on takeout up to the guest, and 15 to 20 percent gratuity is often given."

She continued, "While tipping for takeout is not required, it shows that we are valued and that our hard work is appreciated."

Safe Amount!

The staff believes it is always up to the customer, but 15% is a safe amount to express your gratitude for the service.

So, there is no such thing as doing it correctly or incorrectly when it comes to tipping for takeout.
